Mutation Mechanic

Palworld 1.0 introduced a breeding mutation system that produces stronger offspring. This guide explains the mechanic using official descriptions from Pocketpair's Steam changelog — no mutation species calculator, rank-coefficient solver, or cake-odds table is included.

What Is a Mutation?

According to Pocketpair's official Palworld 1.0 update notes, breeding now has a low chance of producing a Pal stronger than the normal breeding result. When a mutation occurs:

The mutated-egg Pal has higher stats than a standard egg from the same parents
The mutated Pal gains a unique passive skill not present in either parent

This means mutation affects both combat effectiveness (through improved stats) and utility (through the bonus passive).

Deluxe Vegetable Cake

The Deluxe Vegetable Cake breeding cake type increases the likelihood of mutations and makes stat growth more likely (official wording from the Steam changelog). Exact mutation-chance modifiers and stat-growth coefficients are not published in the PalCalc dataset.

Mutation-Exclusive Passive Skills

The PalCalc v1.19.1 database (database v27) includes 4 passive skills marked as mutation-exclusive. These skills can only appear on mutated Pals:

Babysitter (MutationPal_Babysitter)
Idiosyncratic (MutationPal_Mutant)
Immortality (MutationPal_Immortal)
Heavily Armored (MutationPal_ExplosionResist)

These are the skill names from PalCalc's database extraction. Specific stat effects and passive-appearance rates are not documented in the dataset. PalCalc has a TODO for `DA_BreedingItemEffectData` and does not scrape cake/mutation odds from game files.

What This Guide Does NOT Include

Because the PalCalc v1.19.1 dataset (database v27) does not contain mutation-specific formulas or probabilities, this calculator cannot offer:

Mutation species calculator: which Pal species result from mutations
Rank-coefficient solver: stat-growth formulas or mutation-tier tables
Cake-odds table: exact mutation probabilities for each cake type
Passive effect descriptions: what the mutation-exclusive skills actually do

We do not publish competitor estimates for mutation rates, stat ranges, or passive effects because those numbers are not in the pinned dataset and cannot be independently verified from the PalCalc source.
